Born-again fairy penguins return to the sea :
"The four fairy, or little, penguins, including one that survived a dog attack and another that had its feathers burned off in bushfires, were released as part of an innovative program to help the dwindling species. Fairy penguins around Australia are under threat from urban sprawl and contact with humans spoiling their traditional habitats."
Sydney's Taronga Park Zoo is caring for about 40 fairy penguins a year and these for are happily re established back in the wild thanks to Libby Hall and her team. It's fantastic our zoos are playing a pivotal and practical role in helping our native species to thrive and survive. Great story.
