Iraq objector to face court martial:
"AN RAF doctor who refused to serve in Iraq is to face trial by court martial.
Flight Lieutenant Dr Malcolm Kendall-Smith, 37, who is based at RAF Kinloss in Moray, faces five charges of failing to comply with a lawful order after he refused to take part in training and deployment to Basra.
He had already served two tours of duty in Iraq, but refused to return there last June."
I know the military is the military and is the military because it makes everyone do the same thing without question. Military discipline and all that. This case is so sad. And the legal gobbledegook which goes with it is demonstrating that Iraq is continuing to harm and punish those who are valuable and worthwhile. This need not have happened. The invasion occurred on a false premise and we have recognised that. This man has done two tours of service in Iraq. What is the matter with the world that it constantly hurts and damages nice, regular, decent people? Our rules and regulations are currently just getting us in to a complete muddle and however confident leaders were they were doing the right thing they have acknowledged the intelligence was faulty and our running rules and behaviour , at times, has been out of line. it is so sad our time, money, resources and good people are tied up with this Iraq thing. It is a thing. Beyond comprehension and definition.
