World's largest open-cut mine set for SA.

World's largest open-cut mine set for SA. :

"If the expansion is approved, Olympic Dam will become the world's largest open-cut mine, doubling copper production and boosting uranium production four fold."

Biggest is not necessarily the best. Most places don't do open cut mines. Why not? Is the biggest open cut mine in the world a good idea? Why? Sorry, I can't be jubilant about something I don't know. What if it rains, will there be land slides? What about the dust? Will it increase pollution? Toxic materials?
