Tunnel collapse 'needs independent inquiry'.

Tunnel collapse 'needs independent inquiry'. :

"Mr Debnam says the project should take a breather.

'It is well ahead of schedule,' he said.

'It was an accelerated project and we need to understand, we need to make sure that it is safe and only an independent safety audit's going to do that.'"

It's a case of festine lente. That tunnel hole has certainly been the talk of the town and it's not our units threatening to fall into it. WorkCover is obviously doing a report, but the tunnel has been hurried, even we know that. The ventilation doesn't appear to be right and clearly gaping holes are not what was planned. Deep breath, think, think, think. Obviously it hasn't been built properly and is a danger. It is scary. Where they have run our new Expressway there are now roads going over the Expressway. These roads were originally on solid land. We watch these things being built. We expect engineers to build things properly. It's our safety at stake, but major structures need major thought. Band aiding is an interim measure. City bound lanes are still closed, so that tunnel is disrupting Sydney quite considerably. The enquiry needs to be thorough and Plan B needs to be rock solid!!
