Herald Sun: Katie takes up Challenge :
"CHALLENGE -- supporting kids with cancer -- is the official charity of the 2005 Melbourne Cup Racing Carnival and aims to raise $200,000 from the sale of souvenir pins, as part of the Victorian Racing Club's Pin & Win promotion."
I wonder if they made their target? Many of our big name events also support worthy charities. The pins are fashion statements as well as fund raisers for children with cancer. Pity the pins aren't more widely available, but it's all part of the big event atmosphere... and helping others is integral to our enjoyment of any event. It's an easy way to raise funds. People are often more generous in a carnival atmosphere.
Considering we bet 144 million at the TAB, 200,000 is peanuts but the Anti Cancer Foundation will be able to do a lot with it.
