$1bn order to expand Roxby's mine

The Advertiser: $1bn order to expand Roxby's mine:

"The company said it was still considering alternative water supplies for the mine to replace water from the Great Artesian Basin, including building a $200 million desalination plant in the Upper Spencer Gulf and a $300 million pipeline to take the water to the mine site."

This big , open cut mine has been the talk of the town today and the biggest concern was about the amount of water which would be used and where that would come from. So this article answers that question. Where will the energy come from and how much energy will it need to run it? Apparantly it is a very water hungry operation. There is considerable excitement about this project though and popular opinion has it that the Olympic Dam site will manage this all in a very spectacular, efficient fashion and if things are not quite right they'll get the technology going to get it right. Now I feel jubilant because everyone else was so over the moon about it. Roxby be is a very happy area, so I guess it will only start booming big time. Although a mining town, Roxbt Downs has a very good reputation and the lifestyle there seems to be very get up and go.
