West taps Africa for oil, diamonds

West taps Africa for oil, diamonds - World - theage.com.au:

"Corporations are unethically removing the continent's natural resources, critics claim.

A new scramble for Africa is taking place among the world's big powers, who are tapping into the continent for its oil and diamonds."

I remember reading King Solomon's Mines. It left a lasting impression on me about looting the wealth of another country. But somehow we laud the accumulation of wealth and we envy those with pots of money. Corporations are the new nations. Money is the be all and end all and yet we have ample evidence that the inequity of fiscal distribution is not doing us any good as a world. What about sharing? What about considering a nation's resources to allow for the benefit of the nation? Why is it not possible to work things out in a fair and just manner???
