Wet blankets

The Advertiser: SA water users cop bucketing :

"'Clearly water restrictions have failed,' Consumers Association of South Australia secretary Tony Moore said. 'I don't think the water crisis facing the state is registering enough with people.'"

The water restrictions have not failed. We are not washing our cement with water (yes, SA people used to love washing their driveways!), we are using buckets and trigger hoses for our cars. We tsk tsk and tell people off for running taps. We get leaks fixed straight away. We have been nothing short of brilliant so the bucketing is way out of line. I even put a bucket in my shower to collect the water while I had to wait for the plumber to come and each day I put the water on my ferns. That's how good we've been. When the restrictions came in originally it was raining and raining and raining...remember? I didn't stop blogging about grey and wet. We haven't had rain. Have you noticed the hills...they are a lovely shade of crunchy brown. Have you noticed how thirsty the birds are? We haven't had rain. We have been watering every day. This is not normal in April/May. So, give us a break, will ya , and give us some rain and then we won't try and keep our plants alive. We have watered within your restrictions. We have been practically perfect in everyway but we'll not see our plants crisp up and our birds go dry. We are happy to let the lawns go. Now, get real, please.
