Child abuse cases rising, study finds. :
"A child is abused in Australia every 13 minutes, according to a report by Victoria's La Trobe University."
We are all finding this difficult to deal with since we have had mandatory notification by publics workers such as teachers and doctors for quite some time and our public awareness of it was quite effective. We have to sit here baffled wondering how it is becoming so bad when we have made a real effort as a nation over a number of years to improve the situation. This report is as damning as the one on prisoners which gives some strong evidence about their mental health states and then access (or rather lack of access) to treatment and medication. I guess we are going to have to go back to the drawing board because we thought we were getting it right. I am clueless as to where this has broken down because,as a community, we have been very active in trying to deal with child abuse in a sensible manner.
