Recidivist rain and wayward wind

The Weather Bureau says it's been the coldest 2nd of February day in Melbourne on record, with the temperature reaching just over 13 degrees. Rainfall exceeded the average for the month in two days, with almost 60 millimetres falling in one day.

New classrooms at Denistone East Public School in Sydney were opened for the new school year on Monday, but after last night's storm the roof of one of the main buildings has been destroyed.

A P-PLATE driver who allegedly tried to beat a storm had his licence confiscated and was charged with driving at a dangerous speed.
NSW Police said at 10.35pm (AEDT) last night, an 18-year-old man from Forster, on the NSW mid-north coast, was clocked at 204km/h in a 110km/h area of the freeway between Toronto and the Newcastle exit.
