We do not have it. I believe NZ introduced it at least a couple of years ago as part of the duty of care expectation of teachers. There was a least a great deal of open debate about it when I was over there and I think it went ahead. Now I see a British State school has introduced it and read that independent schools there have done it for a decade. We considered it to the extent that it was decided without full discussion would be too invasive , the same as putting cameras around schools. Increased vandalism has made us relent a bit on the camera issue. Given there have been a number of articles about teenagers in night clubs and the drastic impact designer drugs I guess we need to think about taking action. This school pricipal has decided to start in his school and I believe that's how the NZ progamme was started but I think it was more to do with random bag searches and sniffer dogs.
