My little part of the world

rest and relaxation
In a world which is wearing and hard to get along with, you have to work on your little part of the world. Work on your health, hobbies, relationships and interests. Keep yourself positive and do what you can to keep your little part of the world happy and inspiring. It is how I cope and how I have always coped. I have developed so many interests because curiosity is the one thing which keeps negativity at bay. No, I am not perfect. My life isn't perfect and there are days, weeks, months and years where it is gruelling.

I heard today we are going to have more right wing protests in Australia on July 1st like the anti vaccine convoys. I can't find any reference to anything like that so maybe it was just talk. We actually need more benign and optimistic ways of living now we have shed the LNP government federally. We can't keep doing negative. Anyone can protest. They can have a protest about what they like but not when it threatens others or makes it difficult to go about daily life.  We need to be able to get on with living safely and our wellbeing is of ultimate importance at the moment.

It is therefore good to hear our Premier, Peter Malinauskas, is supporting the Vinnies sleep out. It is good to see he has returned the Adelaide 500 to our state for the next 5 years. So many people loved it. It is also great to see we are starting to work positively on energy and renewables. We need some good initiatives to focus on.

In the meantime we need to renew ourselves. Spending time improving your life and your living area is not such a bad thing. Taking the time to explore your local environment helps keep the mind on what you an do rather than all the big issues and concerns which can swamp you daily. It is never about tuning out, as far as I am concerned. There are times when you it is important to put your energy into yourself and then you can better deal with what the world serves up.

Adelaide's smoking!

The weather in Adelaide is just superb at the moment so we are making the most of it. March is a busy month with festivals, music events, the Clipsal 500. There is plenty for people to enjoy. We weren't planning on the second hand blanket of smoke from the Victorian burn off yesterday, though. I could see it all over the hills and my friend who visited from Clarendon said it was creating low visibility on the road. They could have told us! I was on the net early and there was no sign of us being the recipients of the Victorian back burning. No warning at all. Just wheezing and breathing difficulties, sore eyes and then the constant smell of smoke. We doubted it was us because, as you can see, Adelaide is very green and lush for this time of year. Doesn't mean we can't have bush fires, though. So we were wondering. I think we just thought someone might have let us know in advance. We worked it out for ourselves and carried on regardless. My street has been very relaxed this long weekend. Some have taken the opportunity to have a garage sale, some have fixed fences or gardened, some have been off playing water sports and the feel of my street has been very neighbourly and friendly. The warm weather has got us out into our gardens and it has made for a nice, safe atmosphere.People make a difference. I , too , have used the time to clear clutter and liven my home and garden up a bit. It's amazing what some pleasant weather does to lift the spirits - Victorian smoke or not.

Beauty disavantaged welcomed in Mt. Isa

Mt Isa locator-MJCImage via WikipediaThe mayor of Mt Iza has had a lot of worldwide interest in his comments about beauty disavantaged women being welcome in Mt. Isa because of the gender imbalance. We have had more than one story like this from around the world and in this day and age of connectivity and easy travel, well, why shouldn't we take advantage of our technology to solve some of our social problems in a nice way? There is now nothing to stop towns and areas from recruiting people that they need to keep themselves viable. Mt. Isa is one of our oldest towns with a long history and a feel of its own. Maybe they need an internet site to mix and match. It seems to me we have a number of people who cannot find partners because the world has changed. The internet is one way of redressing those imbalances and could stop people form being lonely and isolated. That the mayor has been advocating for his people is a good thing.
