Image via WikipediaCleaners in Melbourne are smearing toilets with peanut butter and offering toilet cleaning workshops. Quite why isn't clear from the article. One might deduce it's because office workers may well have to clean up after themselves if the cleaners go on strike. At the moment they are on industrial action to help negotiate a better wage claim. Cleaning is another job where cuts don't heal. Increasingly those who own the contract are getting more and more profit by cutting back on wages and man power. Cleaning companies do not engage sufficient staff so that individuals can do the work efficiently and comfortably. Cleaners have to race through and do everything in the time allocated. Just talk to your office cleaners and spend some time watching what they have to so in the time allocated. It has become more and more work for them on wages which have been restructured over the last ten years to say the least. The peanut butter may not work...but hopefully the talks will.
