Mining giant to preserve ancient dwelling site - : "'We immediately stopped work and are in continual dialogue with the traditional owners.
'My understanding is we have already agreed to alter the mine plan sufficiently to accommodate the shelter.'"
How responsible is that for a mining company?? They are actually listening and negotiating with traditional owners of the site. The archaeologists involved have dated the site to be at least 35 000 years old, and yes, even though we all live on the spoils form mining, we cannot afford to lose such remarkable sites of geological, historical and cultural value. Thank heavens Rio Tinto has shown remarkable consideration for the land and people.
