Downer won't confirm new role

Downer won't confirm new role : "ALEXANDER Downer yesterday denied that he and other former Howard government ministers were co-ordinating their resignations from federal parliament, but confirmed he was actively considering his future outside politics."

They had a long term of office under interesting conditions so maybe they do want to get away from it all and try something else. They are not getting any younger and we have changed. Maybe they don't want to be in politics now they are not in the limelight, which is a bit unfortunate since their experience and expertise might be useful to us as a nation and to their party in particular. We need a solid rank of experienced politicians who can be our mentors and counsellors, but obviously a lot of people in the Howard government would prefer to fly their wings elsewhere and that's a bit of a shame but good for them.
