Dutch museums put unwanted art on eBay

Dutch museums put unwanted art on eBay : "'It is the first sale of this size,' said Marina Raymakers of the Institute Collection Netherlands (ICN) which manages part of the Netherland's national art treasures."

This is part of the Dutch National Art collection so I can well understand the distress of the artists and their families. It does seem a bit odd and yet is it? There is no reason why quality art cannot be sold on the Internet. There is no reason why fine art cannot be sold electronically. Maybe there needs to be an exclusive internet site because it's about prestige. It's about valuing the art and the artists. It is a test and there is no reason why we shouldn't put the Internet to the test because that's what the Internet is . More and more it is changing and shaping itself to fit our needs. It would be difficult to judge electronic pictures and objects. There will be a better way. Those people who can invest in art can probably travel to look at the sorts of things offered over the Internet. They may well also have trusted overseas contacts who can judge for them. That may even become a job...being the trusted overseas connoisseur of fine art. E-Bay does seem an odd place but there is no reason why it can't have high quality items and shouldn't be used for such. I am looking upon this as a J learning curve! People need to speak up and put in their tuppence worth so they may be heard and we can develop something to suit our needs.
