Wedding 'scams' to gain a visa

AdelaideNow... Wedding 'scams' to gain a visa:

"Immigration and Multicultural Affairs Department figures detail 24 allegations about South Australians suspected of entering into contrived marriages in order to avoid visa requirements during 2005-06."

I thought this was over. NSW has had 870 suspect marriages reported. This has been going on for years. My sister was approached many moons ago at an Adelaide night club to be a wife for somebody. Years ago. The money was attractive but luckily my father got wind of it (somehow my father always seemed to have ESP) and managed to talk some sense into her. It puts people at risk. I accept and understand that this might be the only way some people can escape the abject circumstances of their country. I also accept we have a world where you can buy just about anything if you have enough cash. I accept we have a world that preys upon the traumatised and the unsuspecting, but, having felt the emotion of this at home as a young girl, I am really pleased to see our Immigaration Department has woken up and it's none too soon !!
