Power bills could be higher for thousands :
"However, Mr Conlon said if the Commonwealth believed it could persuade the states to abandon price capping, it must believe in 'fairies at the bottom of the garden'."
Deregulation and privatisation have meant higher prices everywhere in the world. Business is about profit and productivity. It is not about supplying people with something at a reasonable price. It's about large salaries for a few, share prices. It is not about looking after the majority of people. Market forces are about how much you can charge and get away with it and electricity is something we are dependent upon now. An economy is made up of dependents. A society allows people to be independent and to function as individuals. Economies create consumers and then make them dependent by removing alternatives. It's a vicious world out there and we accepted it. Mr. Conlon has made a very valid point.
