Bats' disappearance puzzles Qld scientists. :
"CSIRO bat researcher Louise Shilton says up to 50,000 spectacled flying foxes have not been seen since a week after cyclone Larry tore through north Queensland."
We have lost 50,000 spectacled flying foxes!!! They know we are going to joke about it. And we shall. They do say as blind as a bat so maybe when they left for the cyclone coming in, they lost their spectacles and just can't see their way back home. Surely someone must have noticed an influx of bats into their region. It's not as if you'd not notice 50,000 bats?! Surely they didn't split up and hide one by one all around the countryside? The regional growers are not unhappy because the bats do so much damage to plants and plantations....but they have been here for thousands of years. If they are not back , maybe they know something we don't know.
