Govt names sites of 12 technical colleges.
:

"'At Illawarra, Port Macquarie, Bairnsdale/Sale, Bendigo, Eastern Melbourne, Geelong, Gladstone, Gold Coast, Townsville, Darwin, and in Adelaide,' he said."

And in Adelaide , a number of people will be hoping the closed school which has been left to vandals and vermin will be the site for our new technical college. Yes, we have been confronted with a skills shortage which was always going to happen when you focus people more on large wads of writing and keyboards. It can be explained. It's not just the Government's fault.( Can't believe I am defending the Government..truth is ..they can't alaways be wrong and on this one I don't think they are.) We were having a big push into technology and because we are a small country population wise then the resources are put into the perceived need ,but then you can't pan funding out across all the actual needs. Our money was going into computer literacy, mobile technology, distance networks and our focus and funding went there . What a great government would do is work out how you sustain the other necessary, traditional areas of your community while you are trying to shift a whole nation onto the new buzz reality. It may be too little too late, as this article says, but I figure better late than never and since there is a wildly enthsiastic attitude in this community , at least, for some decent skills based technology colleges to get back our welders, carpenters, plumbers , linesmen and whatever else we need. I suspect the enthusiasm will get us up and running and it will be the Government's job to ensure the momentum is kept.
