I bought this book in New Caledonia but it is an oral history from Vanuatu of one of the islands which was across the lagoon from where I was staying. Erakor Island has a big resort on it now, but the little story coming from the island's history is delightful. It is a trilingual text (English, Bislama, French) and that is a brilliant idea. It means all the main languages (they have about 150 tribal languages) spoken in Vanuatu are used in the text. It means every child can immediately relate to the text because one of the main languages will be theirs. It also means their traditional stories are being preserved for their future generations and for our world.
