Maths and the gateway to the future: "The youngsters of today will become the pioneers of the next generation. They will be the power behind SA's economic growth and maturity. But there are real fears skills shortages will hamper development, and economic benefit, in these 21st century industries."
If our young people don't pick up the skills and run with them then people form other countries will. It is a global market, global economy and if other nations are more alert and educated than we are then they will grab the opportunities and run with them. Same if we don't promote languages. People from other countries can often speak 3 or 4 languages and bits and pieces of others. I should imagine it would be exciting to be involved in the new changes which are occurring but if our kids can't be bothered then some one else's kids will be. Historically this has been what has happened when other races can utilise the resources of another nation better than the inhabitants. So maybe we need to value education more and maybe we need to light up the dreams for the young.
