Heatwave takes its toll on the homeless: "ADELAIDE'S record-breaking heatwave has taken a heavy toll on the homeless, with many suffering heatstroke, dehydration and other physical and emotional distress."
Were it extremes of cold and wet , some sort of emergency conditions would have been put in place. We arrived at a state of emergency Friday last week. People weren't coping, the extreme heat kept on and it has been relentless. Excess snow and we'd have protocol. Inundations and we would have protocol. We have done it and we have got through this emergency but it really is odd no one has thought to consider our extreme and ongoing heat as warranting some kind of plan and protocol. I feel really sorry for those who have had to endure it unaided.
