Register 'won't stop all telemarketing calls'

Register 'won't stop all telemarketing calls' : "CONSUMERS should be aware they will still receive telemarketing calls even if they sign onto the Federal Government's `Do Not Call' register, the peak direct marketing body says"

I shall continue to maintain that the default position should be do not call. When you register, then obviously there is no guarantee you are exempt form telemarketing calls and then there is a database with your name and details which is located somewhere and may or may not be accessed by undesirables. I really do think we have become subject to very woolly thinking. We continue to protect ourselves by the tips and tricks I've previously blogged about. Last week though, I had a real break through. I cannot believe I pay for a silent number and still get telemarketing calls. Granted, not as frequently as others, but it is a silent number. I received a call from a foreign voice last week offering me a free mobile phone something something something. I was going to hang up, but I decided to approach it differently. I actually feel sorry for the people working as telemarketers. It can't be a good job with good conditions. "Excuse me, " I said, "but may I please ask you something?" "Of course ," was the response. "Are you aware you are actually calling a silent number?" "Oh, I am very sorry, madam," and he hung up. Problem solved and politesse intact.
