City bus smashes into tree

AdelaideNow... City bus smashes into tree: "''The driver just hit the tree - it was hard enough to be a bit scary.''"

I don't suppose you would expect a bus to drive into a tree! I am always in awe of our bus drivers who negotiate some very tight corners and inadequate round abouts. I don't actually think Adelaide has taken buses into account when it has designed a lot of its roads. You only have to be on one to know. They often hit kerbs and drive over corners to fit themselves on our roads. Most round abouts are too narrow. Lots of driveways are two narrow. Buses often cause traffic congestion on one side of the road because the roads are not wide enough for buses and other traffic. Heaven help the cyclists. It's something which needs to be looked at as a big picture. I have had buses go over round abouts to try and accommodate the trafic conditions and narrowness of the road at the time. We need to look at the hot spots, the spots we all know about and the bus drivers will most certainly know about them...but I heard a bus driver went down the wrong road the other day and the passengers got a bit of a scenic trip! There are some things here which need to be considered and we are quite good at the quick fixes until we can create a proper one. Get the information and look at it. Some places are easier to widen than others and some simple changes on our roads have really improved traffic flow.
