Cattle station's big sell-off

AdelaideNow... Cattle station's big sell-off:

"Anna Creek Station in South Australia's Far North has reduced its stock levels from 16,000 head to 4000 since late last year.

Manager Randall Crozier said most of the cattle had been sold or sent to feedlots - some on Kangaroo Island and some in the South-East."

That's a massive cut in stock but at least we are thinking this time because there is nothing more heartbreaking for farmers than to watch their stock starve because it's so hot and dry. It's a good idea to sen them to feed lots. My firend's daughter has brought home a turtle because some place in Adelaide is having to rethink its turtle farm or whatever it is, I dindn't pay proper attention, so friends and rellies and anyone else is being asked to babysit a turtle until they have sorted it all out. This is so sensible. Poeple love to help when the going gets tough. Some of our cattle stations are as big as countries. They are just to costly and expensive to run in a drought, so using our heads and our sense of community is the way to go. Maybe there are other things we can do as a team effort to help the farmers. They maybe need to let us know. They have been in drought conditions for much longer than we have and they are doing it hard. They know their business and their land though, so the plan has to come from them in consultation with whomever can get a drought plan together. It's a bit sad the leaders didn't get onto this before because it's been around for about 8 years now, this water shortage problem.
