Veteran reporter Carleton dead

Veteran reporter Carleton dead :

"Carleton collapsed during a press conference given by the mine's manager Matthew Gill this afternoon.

State Emergency Crews and locals held blankets to shield him from media crew gathered there to cover the mine rescue."

You don't expect someone as solid and as much a part of your home as you are to die. I couldn't believe it when they were reporting on the mine situation in Tasmania and then said that Richard Carleton was dead. Rock solid. So much a part of our homes and lives. Always there. Always at the front. Not one to mince words and not one to let people waffle their way through a news story, Richard Carleton's no frills approach was legendary. No one got past him and he was always respectful, polite...but determined to get the truth. He was one of a kind. There is going to be a big gap because he really was unique. He is supposed to have suffered a heart attack. My thoughts go to his family who will find it hard to manage without someone as big as he was. The only good I can think of is that he died doing what he loved and being at the forefront of a big story was him. I am sorry we shall not see his report because he would have brought a different angle to all of this. He is very much missed but we are all pinching ourselves still. We just cannot believe it.
