"This column could not fail to notice that when John Howard appeared on The National last night, he was not wearing his glasses, and his eyebrows were impressively upswept. In the sordid world of politics, image changes always have a special significance. We phoned Mr Howard's office last night, and a staff member replied wearily to our question:"No, it's not a leadership challenge, it's just a screw loose in his glasses. They were a bit uncomfortable so he took them off for the interview. No, he hasn;t started wearing contact lenses. And nothing has happened to his eyebrows. They always look like that." We'll see."
