Mardi Gras melody plays amid debris of ruined lives

Mardi Gras melody plays amid debris of ruined lives :

"'We are paid to move these cars,' says John McRae. 'They can't move the debris before the cars are moved. But you know, no one will come back here. They can't afford to rebuild here. And no one going to give them the money they need. No one.'"

Darwin was totalled by Cyclone Tracy. It took a long time to clean up and we billeted Darwinians who wanted and needed to be billeted all around Australia. Our troops were in there cleaning it up and then it was rebuilt. It was never a question of people not going back to their homes, but knowing they could go back safely. Why do the people of New Orleans feel so abandoned and why do they feel their own people will not come back and not be able to come back? Why would you allow a world famous city that we all know and feel for not be rebuilt? Why would you not allow it to shine again? New Orleans is legendary. Who would let a legend go to waste? People are there trying to improve it and clean it up, but is there a plan for the big picture? This is New Orleans not Tumbleweed Town.
