Smokers fail to come to the party.

Smokers fail to come to the party. :

"He along with friends distributed 300 statutory declarations in pubs around the state.

He needed 100 signed and returned forms to establish his party.

He received three."

Andy Devine was going to start a political party with the anti smoking things as a platform i.e. he was going to try and have a party which gave voice to smokers. If he only got 3 of his 100 stat decs he need not be disappointed. Smoking has been singled out at targeted like no other bad habit/vice/addiction. Smokers have been treated far worse than eaters, drinkers, druggies, gamblers...They really have been victimised. Then there was a bit of sense which came in with the Quit campaigns. Smoking is both social and an addiction. We have targeted smoking and made it a very anti social thing to do but we haven't made any other dependent feel as harassed or uncomfortable. It has made a lot of people stop smoking. It has made a lot of our kids not start. The not smoking on public transport, at work, in food areas and public venues like cinemas and theatres is all sensible stuff because of the smell. Then there has been the passive smoking stuff. It has been better for people with allergies and asthma and it has probably been better for the smokers because they will not smoke as much. Smoking does kill. It kills like drinking too much, eating too much, taking certain drugs. All these things lead to awful deaths and we are having social fall out from all of them. Andy was trying to get some perspective for the smokers and that is nothing to be ashamed of . It is a democracy. He tried and the people did not support him. That simple. Democratic process in action, but at least he got off his bottom and tried to do something about what he thought was unfair.
