Blindness rate set to double

Blindness rate set to double: report :

"The incidence of blindness among elderly Australians will double in the next 20 years and cost the community an additional $3.9 billion annually unless immediate action is taken, new research has found."

They say there is no real cure; they say that smoking and ageing are the cause, but they do not explain how or why we are going to double the numbers with regard to blindness in the next 20 years. If this is the case, we do need to get on to it quick smart because with an ever increasing ageing population, it'll be the blind leading the blind. (Sorry, forgive me, I just couldn't help myself...it was just asking for it!!)
