The Australian: Electricity retailers face shortage :
"The risks were illustrated in Victoria on New Year's eve when sweltering temperatures had airconditioners working overtime, causing a two day spike in wholesale electricity prices."
We always had enough power for everyone. Blackouts occurred but they were not frequent. Prices did not spike. No one should have to buy extra electricity from "the volatile wholesale market". This is nonsense, unless someone can explain this to me so it makes sense. Austrlai is a hot country. It is hot on summer. Has been for years. We put air conditioners on in hot weather. Everybody does it. It's normal behaviour. So electricity companies should have an idea of how much electricity we use over the summer...because we do the same thing every summer. Manaaging electricity is up to them. I hope consumers will not be paying extra because they doidn't get it right. I'd put someone else in charge of the electricity , quite frankly.
