Alcohol sinks centrist leader

Alcohol sinks centrist leader:

"The ginger-haired Scot is widely liked and had taken his party to its best performance in 80 years in last years's general election, but was unable to quell growing unhappiness among many Liberal Democrat MPs who believed his drinking was damaging their ability to make further gains."

If he hasn't had a drink for 2 months, then he needs all the encouragement people can muster. I have nothing but admiration for people who front up to excess drinking problems. Drinking to excess not only destroys many beautiful human beings, it is a terrible burden for friends and relatives. I've always seen it as an illness because people who drink too much have no control and are not rational when it comes to alcohol. Even this article says there doesn't appear to be a reason for his drinking. Well, there is. It'll be on the inside of him and in his genetic makeup. I think he has considerable guts to say he is going to quit his public post and, rather than being seen as a failure, he needs to be supported through the successful transition into the next part of his life. I wish someone could come up with something which would stop people being addicited to alcohol. It's a terrible way to live and it's a real demon ...and most of us know some great people who have killed or ruined themselves because of drink. So let's tackle it, heh?
