Sound relief

"If there had been a roof, headline act Midnight Oil would have raised it."
I am glad the reports are about Midnight Oil  letting it rip and just showing us the way. They have been an iconic group because they sing what is deep in our heart. They say what we need to say and we ALL sing along. Beds are Burning would have meant so much, I am certain. I was thinking about the lyrics:
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep when our beds are burning
The time has come and we do need to pay the rent. That song would have meant so much. Midnight Oil was always a front runner in keeping the real issues in front of us in a way that we could relate. Peter Garrett has learnt a good lesson and we have learnt one too. We need to connect in a basic way. We need to relate and share meaning in a fundamental way. Musicians and artists express what we need to think about and we know it. We do not shy away from lyrics.  Peter Garrett has learned the lesson we all need to learn  -to thine own self be true. As an artist, as a musician, he not only feels his best, he has a profound influence. Suit him up and shove him in parliament and he is like a duck out of water. He must feel straitjacketed.Stick him on a stage with the people he loves and he can not only make music, he can relate to people in a very real way. His music drives him to connect and Midnight Oil as a band was a group which rallied us around issues. From what I can tell, the whole evening was a huge success which touched everyone. It was how Australians are one and how we heal wounds. If Kylie Minogue had everyone in tears with I still call Australia home, and if it rained, if we rocked on and sang our hearts out...then it was the good medicine we needed and a good lesson for us all. We need each other, and we need to be Australian.
