Winter rains arrive

15mm of rain in Adelaide as winter rains arrive: "ADELAIDE was swamped with 15mm of rain yesterday as most of the state revelled in much-needed moisture over the past week."

Winter rains arrive??? We have had rain for a while now and aren't we glad and it has reminded people of how wet it used to be in Adelaide in the days we had floods and dust storms.Older people have been talking about how it just used to pour in Adelaide and you'd get drenched and then the rain would stop. We are all wondering if our artesian basins are filling up? We were not impressed with people paying to get bores sunk into their land to fill pools and maybe even sell it when some towns were without water or on severe restrictions. We were also cross about some industries just sucking water out of the ground. A bit of sanity has prevailed now we have had rain to relieve the pressure...and it was terrible pressure. We have spent months clearing away all the things which died through summer and now we sit and watch the green but we are exhausted from it all. Worn down by the heat and the drought, so busy with the planting and clearing and now thinking about how this can all be managed better. The trial desalination plant is up and running. That was such welcome news. We look forward to more because we need to plan this properly and we are all onside. We are clear that our environment needs protecting. Quite clear...and pulling water wholesale out of artesian basins was never a good thing and never will be.
