Suspended sentence for tourist driver

Suspended sentence for tourist driver :

"Judge David Smith said Bjorn Vagan Grostad had made a 'serious and dangerous error of judgment' when he tried to overtake a four-wheel-drive on the Princes Highway in July. The 26-year-old electrician was driving a hire car to Melbourne with friend Monica Ingdal when they collided head-on with another car."

That round table court area in the new Adelaide Courts is sounding more and more sensible. We have our laws. We have people. We have been beside ourselves with the number of young people killing themelves and others on our roads. We have been frantic about the number of cruelly stupid accidents. This particular case has been judged by the courts, by people and more importantly by the parents of the two young women who were so sadly killed. 26 year old Bjorn Vagan Grostad had made a "serious and dangerous error of judgment" on the road to Melbourne. He is alive but he had serious internal injuries and has some permanent physical ones. He has been heart broken and when we have seen him on the news going to and from his trial he has looked down, his face placid, but looking so sad. We have been so frustrated and have been trying to find a way out of this problem of lethal accidents for young people. We have not judged this particular man harshly. We know our roads. We know how they suddenly become blind, or how cars are going faster than you think or how they suddenly go from double lane to "merge". We've all done that Melbourne run and even though we have big , wide roads...you can easily be mesmerised by the gum trees, the land, the sky, the long, long road or suddenly blinded by the sun or headlights. We also understand he is used to driving on the other side of the road and in an emergency you fall back into your ingrained habits when you have to make split second decisions. The parents have been very forgiving and the parents who know him have been concerned for his well being as they knew who he was. Now that he has been judged, it is not said if he serves it here or in Norway. I should say he could really do with his family. I am just so touched by how compassionate the parents have been when they have lost so much.
