Counter Terrorism Laws

The Advertiser: Terror laws 'lacking proper scrutiny' :

"THE Federal Government is rushing with indecent haste to introduce new anti-terror laws without proper scrutiny, The Law Council of Australia said.

A draft copy of the new sweeping laws, which include plans to jail people for up to seven years if they support insurgents, were leaked yesterday by the ACT Government."

Everything of import is pushed along, given an urgent deadline, raced to the finish line. Nothing is considered and where we have panels and councils , like the Trades and Labour Council to consider issues at length, they have been ignored. Experts, knowledgeable people, workers in the field, people of experience are largely left out of any hurried discussion. Serious thought is lambasted and it comes down to the two or three sentences to decide something and a one sentence rebuff if you are not onside. We really are making asses of ourselves and we'll pay for it, because when we do put thought into serious matters, as a nation, we are very good at arriving at sensible, workable policies. I do not know what all the hurry is about. But, what kind of a mood are you in when you barge in past people and push your own views?
