Why are we exporting emus?

Why are we exporting our emus? I thought we had strict requirements. I understand from reading more than this article which The Hindu has had the courage to report that it is a business deal gone wrong. Emus can produce quite a lot of marketable items and their eggs can be carved. If we are going to export our native animals then we have to ensure that the buyers know how to look after them, how to create a business with them and not allow our animals come to such a sad and horrible end. It is irresponsible of us to just let them go without ensure their safety and wellbeing. It is also important for nations who take on unusual species to have the courage to bring it to the global arena and seek help. There is no need for any native animal to suffer anywhere because we live in the age of connectivity.
